Writers I think you should be reading
  • Dan Simmons
Perhaps my favorite writer. Miss one of his outstanding novels at your peril.

  • Stephen King
    Well, duh.

  • Steven E. Wedel
Werewolf-meister and all around nice guy. Good stuff here, kiddies.

  • Brian A Hopkins
One of my favorite writers. His work astounds and wrings the breath from you, and is filled with a humanity too often absent from works of suspense.

  • Donald E. Westlake
You must read Westlake. You must. You must. Don't make me come over there.

  • Harlan Ellison
The man is a god. Pan, perhaps. For my money, the best living writer of short fiction. You absolutely, positively cannot go wrong with his work.

  • Nate Kenyon
A newcomer well worth keeping an eye on. His first novel, Bloodstone, is a worthy read and I think we can expect great things from Mr. Kenyon.

  • Tim Waggoner
His Like Death was perhaps the most successfully ambitious horror novel I read last year.

  • Tom Piccirilli
I don't think there's anything he hasn't done and done damned well.

  • William D. Gagliani
Check out his fine werewolf novel, Wolf's Trap, coming in May from Leisure Books.

Music that keeps me functional
  • Marillion
My favorite band. Ever. And producing not just the finest work of their career these days, producing some of the finest music around, period.

  • The Flaming Lips
Still weird after all these years. And getting better.

  • The Shins
Mmmm. Tasty. And my daughter became an honorary member at age 9. (It's entirely true!)

  • Concrete Blonde
Some of my favorite music to write to. (Along with Yes, but that's a different matter altogether.)

  • WOXY
If all radio was this good, the music business wouldn't be shuffling toward it's grave like a fat old man with Alzheimer's. Seriously.

  • Radio Paradise
See above. Somewhat relaxed, but not stupid, radio.

Places, People, and Things that make life wonderful
  • The Onion
    Those kidders!

  • The Phil Hendrie Show
You've never heard anything quite like this guy, I swear you haven't.

  • Shocklines
Absolutely the place to get your frightful fun.

  • Kirk Alberts
A terribly underrated artist. He did the cover for the Oklahoma Gazette article that featured Steven E. Wedel and me. Amazing stuff.

  • Deena Warner
Hey, you see this site you're looking at right now? It didn't happen by accident. Check out her killer art, too.

  • James Randi
A light in the darkness. There's a world of irrationality out there. We need more guys like Randi.

  • Bunnies Gone Mad
Just about my attention span, too.
